Scouting at St. Joseph – Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 497
Boy Scout Troop 497, founded in 1959, presently numbers over seventy boys. We are a “Boy Run” operation and pride ourselves on the accomplishments of our young men over the years.
Heavy emphasis on leadership, character development, and personal responsibility are some of the keys to our success. We are an active organization with weekly meetings, monthly camping adventures, and a yearly long-term trip to places as far away as Tennessee, Maine, Canada, Michigan, and Wyoming.
Our Troop meets Thursday evenings at St. Joseph Parish in Cockeysville, Maryland from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. from September through July. If you would like to learn more about our troop, we welcome you to take some time and go through our Website.
Cub Scout Pack 497
Our Cub Scout Pack is dedicated to preserving the long-standing tradition of Cub Scouts by providing boys the opportunity to participate in scouting activities that will enable the youth of today to become leaders of tomorrow.
Cub Scouting means “doing.” Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing activities. These activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting – citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of these activities happen during our weekly den meeting and/or our monthly pack meetings.
As a Cub Scout, you do your best and you help others. You learn the Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack and what it means.
Our Pack is chartered by and supported by St. Joseph Parish in Cockeysville, MD. We welcome scouts of all backgrounds and faiths.
Our Pack is comprised generally of boys from the following schools:
- St. Joseph School
- Padonia Elementary
- Jacksonville Elementary
- Warren Elementary
